Nut Case Restoration
Deck cracked and saturated around four stanchions
During pre-purchase discussions it was plainly stated that the deck had some wet spots around the stanchions and that the cabin floor may need replacement. Further investigation had revealed that all J27 have or have had wet core issues around stanchions and some other areas. These boats either require repair in these areas or have had the repairs already completed - one of the major factors affecting resale price. Having performed some recoring on Full Tilt 2 and on our laser the summer before I welcomed these projects. This represented a break in the price as well as a satisfying project to put my own stamp on the vessel. I had also been warned that the boat required a complete bottom job - not structural but time consuming. What I was not prepared for was the overall grime and condition of a vessel that had been sitting on the hard over the winter. Cosmetic yes but depressing at the same time.

Project #2 - Bottom job
Project #3 - Deck Recore
Initial description of boat indicated that there was extensive saturation of the deck particularly around the mid and aft stanchions where teh deck was in fact cracked. Previous Owner had an estimate of $8000 to have this repaired. It should be noted that this is a common concern with J Boats of the era and most boats either need deck repairs or have had them done. For year 1 the four problem stanchion areas were recored, year 2 a surveyor identified the remaining areas which were then repaired. In addition all hardware was removed from coachroof and deck and rebedded.
