J27 - Instrumentation
Nut Case was purchased with several instruments in working or non working order. The Sea Ranger VHF radio as been tested briefly and seems to be in good working order - although a transmit test has not yet been carried out. The compass is a Ritchie Explorer bracket mount model. Speed/Log is a Nexus Star Sea Data unit that has capability of depth as well by adding a transducer and is working properly. Also included is a Sail Comp tactical compass as yet untested and reported to have a cable problem.
Nexus Star Sea Data speed/log
The Nexus speed log is working well but addition of a depth transducer is within $40 of the price of a new Raymarine Speed/Depth combi unit. As a result this Nexus Speed instrument has been sold. It is working and full documentation is available from Nexus website or you can read it here.
Ritchie Explorer bracket mount compass
The Ritchie line of compasses are excellent quality but a bracket mount compass is not ideal on a sailboat with a regular crew of four or five as it will be in the way. This compass will be replaced with a bulkhead mount model. The Ritchie Explorer compass has been sold. It will be replaced by a bulkhead mount compass.
KVH Sailcomp tactical compass. No idea if this is working. Be interesting to use if it does work. These units appear to be very well made and reliable. A number are in use in the J24 fleet and are class legal for that fleet.
New to Nut Case. Raymarine ST60 series Speed, Depth and Wind.
